There are a variety of reasons that people seek therapy. Some for specific reasons, such as learning to better manage anxiety and stressors, deal with uncomfortable feelings, or work on unhealthy patterns. Others may wish to start therapy to better understand themselves, try something new, or incorporate mental health into their wellness practice.
As your therapist, I am here to meet you wherever you are and help you work through the reasons that bring you to therapy as well as any emerging challenges that present during our time together.
My therapeutic style is integrative and is influenced by humanistic, psychodynamic, multicultural, and evidence-based practices. Together, we will explore your identity and the larger context in which you live to reflect on how these factors shape your internal and external experiences. Therapy will also help you develop insight into how your past informs your present reality, which in turn can enhance your self-understanding and allow you to connect to a more authentic version of yourself. I acknowledge and respect the vulnerability and courage it takes to decide to embark on this journey. For this reason, developing a level of consistency, safety, and trust will be prioritized in our relationship and influence the change, growth, and healing that occurs.
If you are interested in trauma-informed care, I offer a variety of evidenced-based treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which will be tailored to your unique needs. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based therapy used to help clients process traumatic and distressing experiences and reduce lingering emotional and physiological reactivity. Trauma can lead to feelings of disconnection from oneself, others, and the world, and through treatment, reconnection to these integral parts of yourself will be fostered. You will also learn to build on your resiliency and existing resources to help you cultivate a life that is guided less by your trauma and more by your values system.
I have extensive experience working with diverse adults who have experienced adjustment concerns, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress reactions. In addition, I have specific experience working with veterans and military families. I welcome individuals of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, religious practices, size, and ability statuses. I invite discussion of our unique and intersecting identities into the therapeutic space.
